Longer Lashes for the New Year
- Posted on: Dec 15 2017
At this time of year, everyone seems to think of resolutions they’d like to make: lose weight, exercise more, read more, and such. If you have thin eyelashes, maybe you should resolve to have longer, thicker eyelashes.
And, no, we don’t mean to go out and buy a pair of false eyelashes. We want you to try Latisse at Creative Image Laser Solutions. Latisse is the only FDA-approved treatment that gives the patient longer, thicker eyelashes.
How does Latisse work?
While this seems like a promise on a late night infomercial, Latisse grows your eyelashes. It’s not some ultra mascara or other cosmetic trick; your eyelashes grow themselves.
The discovery of Latisse was a total accident. Allergan was working on an eye drop to relieve intraocular pressure in the eye. This is the eye condition with glaucoma. Subjects had to put eye drops in their eyes to lower the pressure in the eye. Of course, some of the eye drops made their way onto the eyelashes. As the study progressed, subjects reported their eyelashes were becoming longer and thicker. Allergan began testing the active ingredient, bimatoprost, specifically for growing eyelashes. It proved effective, and the FDA approved it in December 2008. It is believed that the bimatoprost increases the anagen phase (that’s the growth phase) of the eyelashes.
How do I use Latisse?
You apply Latisse nightly on the upper lash, just like eyeliner. The bimatoprost in Latisse stimulates the lashes to grow. The treatment works gradually, and your eyelashes will experience real growth over time, generally 12 to 16 weeks. But you must stay with it — once you start the treatment, the topical solution must be applied continuously each night until you achieve the desired results.
When Latisse was tested, it was shown effective in 78% of the participants at the end of the 16-week test period. Specifically, patients using Latisse experienced a:
- 25% increase in lash length
- 106% increase in lash thickness/fullness
- 18% increase in lash darkness
