Laser Hair Removal
in Brownwood TX
Looking for Laser Hair Removal in Brownwood or Central TX? Laser hair removal remains the #1 cosmetic laser treatment performed in the United States. Underarms, facial hair, bikini, legs, back, and other body part areas are easily eliminated using the latest laser hair reduction technologies. For permanent hair removal, the hair follicle’s bulb, bulge, and papilla must be destroyed using joules of light energy. IPL laser hair removal requires a target (melanin) to see the actual hair within the follicle so it is not as effective with blonde and white (gray) hair individuals.

What are the benefits of laser hair removal?
That depends on how much you enjoy removing unwanted hair through shaving, plucking, waxing, and applying harsh depilatory creams. The process of getting rid of unwanted hair is never-ending, and it can add up to lots of money over the decades of doing it.
By destroying the hair follicle, precluding it from producing hair in the future, laser energy permanently reduces your unwanted hair from 85 to 90 percent. Think of the time you’ll save not shaving in the shower. Your skin will thank you because it won’t have ingrown hairs and razor burn caused by shaving. Laser hair removal is the most popular laser treatment around the world for a simple reason — it works. And when it comes to getting rid of unwanted hair for good, everyone’s a fan!
Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?
When it comes to us homo sapiens, there’s no doubt we’re in the mammal family. And there isn’t a person among us who doesn’t have some areas of unwanted hair. For women, it could be the underarms, legs, the bikini line, even the upper lip or sideburns. For men, the back and shoulders are common targets, but some men even opt to decrease their beard hair.
Laser hair removal works best when there is a good degree of contrast between darker hair and lighter skin. When that is the case, the laser energy can easily differentiate between the hair and the skin, making it the most effective.
Still, the technology of our Intense Pulsed Light system at Creative Image Laser Solutions can work on all skin tones and hair colors. When there is less contrast, we simply lower the energy in the pulses delivered.
What areas of the body can I have laser hair removal done?
You can have laser hair removal done across your body, with a few exceptions. At Creative Image Laser Solutions, the most popular areas are the underarms, bikini line, upper lip, sideburns, chin, legs, and back. Some men opt to reduce hair on their arms. Others remove all of their chest hair. Some women opt for full pubic removal, the Brazilian treatment.
The only areas where you cannot have laser hair removal are inside the ears, inside the nostrils, and on the male genitalia.
How is laser hair removal done?
While you may think of lasers in terms of light energy, heat is what matters for permanent hair removal. We set the wavelength of our IPL laser to match your hair color. We then send pulses of laser light down onto the target area. The melanin in the hair absorbs the light energy, which converts to heat. The heat travels down the hair shaft into the hair follicle, damaging or destroying the follicle and preventing future hair growth.
As described above, the success of each treatment depends on the phase of the hair growth cycle each unwanted hair is in. Hair needs to be in the growth phase to be impacted by IPL energy. That’s the reason multiple sessions are necessary to achieve the degree of permanent hair reduction you seek — to catch more and more unwanted hair in the growth phase.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my session?
As mentioned above, laser hair removal works best when there is a high contrast between the color of the patient’s skin and his or her hair color. So, avoiding the sun is important before your appointment. Here are some things to do to prepare:
- Avoid sun exposure — If you have a tan, you need to let it fade before coming in for your session. As a rule, we advise patients do not to have any sun exposure on the areas with unwanted hair for 4-6 weeks prior to their session.
- Avoid plucking, waxing, and electrolysis — For the laser energy to get down into the follicle, the hair needs to be actively anchored in the follicle. Plucking, waxing, and electrolysis all disturb the follicle. Shaving is fine, as it doesn’t affect hair in the follicle.
- Clean your skin — The treatment areas need to be free from cosmetics, lotions, and creams. If you’ve applied deodorant and are having your underarms treated, we will remove it prior to your session.
- Certain skincare products — Certain anti-aging skincare products can cause irritation when interacting with laser energy. These include alpha hydroxy acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and others. We’ll discuss these with you and tell you to want to avoid them for a few days before and after your appointment.
How many treatments of Laser Hair Removal do I Need?
The number of treatments varies based upon the hair growth cycles of various body locations and is safe and comfortable to the patient. For leg hair removal, you can expect around 4 to 7 sessions. The reason for multiple treatments is due to the target of the laser hair treatment being melanin, only actively growing hair contains melanin in the bulb and germinal matrix of the hair. The growth cycles for hair are the Anagen (active growth), Telogen (no growth), and Cathagen (hair is ejected) stage of development. Lasers only effectively treat the hair in its Anagen Phase: multiple treatments are required.
Body location of hair also is important in the number of laser treatments needed as the percentage of hair that is in the Anagen stage is different for various body locations.
Is laser hair removal truly permanent?
In late 1997 the FDA approved the first lasers for “permanent hair reduction.” This is a nod to the fact that lasers can’t remove all unwanted hair permanently due to a couple of reasons.
As discussed elsewhere on this page, the hair growth cycle matters. Only during the anagen/growth phase is the hair fully engaged in the follicle. This is when laser energy can damage the follicle. During the catagen and telogen phases, the hair has stopped receiving nourishment and is in the process of being shed. That’s why hair in these two phases doesn’t respond to laser energy — they’re already on their way out and the laser energy can’t get down into the follicle to damage it.
Considering the human boy has around five million hairs on it, and every hair operates independently, it’s difficult to catch all of the hairs you want to remove in the growth phase when you have your treatments.
Some damaged follicles can also rebuild themselves with hormonal changes. Partially damaged follicles can sometimes heal themselves, as well.
So, the amount of hair you can expect to permanently remove is from 85-90 percent.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Some patients incorrectly assume that laser hair removal involves vaporizing the hairs with laser energy, but that’s not how the process works. The laser energy delivered is much lower and it simply travels down the hair shaft and damages the hair follicle. When the laser pulses are delivered, patients feel a very brief prickling sensation. Most patients equate the feeling to that of a small rubber band being plucked on the skin. Our IPL system features a cooling mechanism in the head, which ensures the patient’s skin is kept comfortable during the treatment. Some areas are more sensitive than others, but these brief treatments are still more comfortable than shaving or waxing every couple of weeks forever.
Are there any risks involved with laser hair removal?
Lasers have been removing hair commercially since 1997, the year of the first FDA approval for “permanent hair reduction.” They were tested for approximately two decades before that. Laser hair removal is a very popular procedure around the world and has proven to be safe, comfortable, and effective. There are very few risks, really only skin burns, and those are the result of inexperienced or poorly trained providers. That’s why you should only trust your laser hair removal to the highly trained, vastly experienced team at Creative Image Laser Solutions.
