Younger Looking Skin with Botox
Looking to get your Botox® and Dysport® in Brownwood, TX? Botox® and Dysport® injections are one of the most common cosmetic enhancements used today in relation to anti-aging, wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet and many other age related facial changes.
Botox® and Dysport® are medicines that relax muscles by inhibiting the secretion of acetylcholine needed for muscle contraction. It has been used for the past (25) years to treat such medical conditions as cervical dystonia, TMJ, and other neuromuscular disorders.
As you grow older your skin becomes less elastic due to the loss of collagen and reduced vascularization of tissues. Wrinkles (rhytids) occur when certain muscles become more dominant and the skin does not have the ability to be as elastic in response to these muscle contractions. In addition, muscles become constrictive and naturally form creases and rhytids . Dynamic rhytids (not a crease of the skin) can be eliminated or lessened by relaxing the dominant muscle as it competes against either an inferior muscle or in constricting skin elasticity. This is why certain patients of differing ages start to form wrinkles at different times as compared to other individuals.
Because muscles of the face are relatively small, it is necessary to introduce the medicine by injection so that the exact placement and the effect is achieved. By introducing the medicine into the exact muscle group responsible for the wrinkling, various aesthetic enhancements can be obtained in addition to elimination of the rhytids. Wrinkles of the forehead, crows feet, frown lines, and eyebrow shaping is easily achieved. Other specialty injections for gummy smiles, dimpled chin, bunny lines, vertical lip lines, and a sad smile can be performed with Botox® and Dysport®.

Botox Q & A
What is Botox?
Botox basically consists of the botulinum toxin type A, along with some additional proteins. These are the bacteria that cause botulism, which can seem scary. But in the 1950s scientists discovered that when a minute amount of the botulinum toxin was injected into a muscle, it caused the muscle to temporarily stop contracting. This was the initial use of Botox, to stop involuntary muscle contractions in areas such as eyelid spasms. But in 2002 the FDA approved Botox for the cosmetic treatment of wrinkles on the upper third of the face. Since that time, Botox has been far and away the most popular cosmetic procedure, surgical or non-surgical, across the globe.
How does Botox work?
Botox is known as a neuromodulator. When injected into a muscle, Botox blocks the nerve messages from the muscle to the brain. So, when the nerves signal the brain to contract the muscle, the message is never received, and the muscle doesn’t contract.
This matters aesthetically for what are called “dynamic” wrinkles. These are wrinkles that form on the skin surface when a muscle contracts. This is what happens when we make certain expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting, and the like. As we age and our skin loses some elasticity, repeated muscle contractions for these expressions create wrinkles on the skin surface above: crow’s feet around the eyes, the 11s between the brows, and some forehead wrinkles. When Botox is injected into the muscles creating these wrinkles, it temporarily stops the muscles from contracting so the wrinkles don’t form on the skin above.
Am I a good candidate?
Botox has been injected into tens of millions of patients since its cosmetic introduction in 2002. When injected by an experienced doctor with extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, virtually everyone would be a good candidate for some wrinkle reduction with Botox. Generally, patients over 30 start to see these wrinkles forming on the upper third of the face.
How long does treatment take?
Botox was deemed the original “lunchtime” procedure because sessions take just 10-30 minutes, depending on what areas you’re treating.
How long does Botox last?
Eventually, your body will absorb the now-inert Botox and the muscles will start contracting again. How long this takes can vary based on the metabolism of the patient. But generally, Botox lasts around four months. Some people see results for up to six months. There is some evidence that repeated Botox sessions lead to somewhat longer results, as the muscles become “trained” to relax and not contract as strongly.
How much does Botox cost?
This depends on how much Botox is used during your session. Botox is priced by the unit. Ask Dr. Butka before your session about how much he estimates you will need to address the areas you are having injected. The price of botox can range depending on the number of injections. Generally, the price for a session varies between $100 and $500.
