Liposuction with Help from a Laser
- Posted on: Sep 30 2017
Liposuction has been around in the U.S. since the 80s, but it has continued to improve over the decades since its introduction. Today’s liposuction procedures have added injections of anesthetic and adrenaline to provide pain relief and minimize bruising. Some liposuction is done with ultrasound energy to help break up the fat. Others use a vibrating cannula to break up the fat.
At Creative Image Laser Solutions, we’ve added laser energy to our liposuction procedures, laser-assisted lipolysis.
What is laser-assisted liposuction?
In this procedure, the cannula that is inserted to suction out the fat is different. The cannula has a fiber optic cable attached to it. This cable delivers the laser energy that heats and emulsifies areas of targeted fat. To be more specific, this energy blows up the walls of the fat cells, liquefying the fat, which is then suctioned out by the cannula.
What are the advantages of laser-assisted liposuction?
There are some real advantages to the laser-assisted liposuction we use at Creative Image Laser Solutions.
First, by liquefying the fat, it is easier to remove and doesn’t require the same violent movement of the cannula that is required in traditional liposuction. This movement of the cannula is what causes the tissue trauma and bleeding that lead to extensive bruising.
Second, by setting the laser wavelength to the appropriate parameters, the energy only targets fatty deposits without harming surrounding body tissues, such as nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue.
Third, its precision allows us to target smaller fatty areas that traditional liposuction cannot address.
Fourth, the laser energy has a secondary benefit beyond liquefying the fat — it also provides skin tightening. As with other laser skin tightening procedures, the laser energy delivered into the dermis layer of the skin causes the body to perceive it as a “wound.” The response is to produce new collagen and elastin in the wound area, which tightens the skin. This skin tightening response lasts for up to one year after your liposuction procedure.
Where can I have laser-assisted liposuction?
We use this liposuction on fat deposits under the chin, cheeks, jowls, neck, upper arms, breasts, chest, abdomen, buttocks, hips, inner and outer thighs, knees, calves, and ankles.
