What is Body-Jet liposuction?
For years, liposuction has been performed in most cases by first injecting a tumescent solution comprised of saline, epinephrine, and lidocaine into the area to be treated with liposuction. This solution has helped to constrict blood vessels to create less bleeding, and the lidocaine acts as a local anesthetic, making the general anesthesia that formerly was required for liposuction mostly a thing of the past.
Body-Jet takes the use of the liquid with liposuction to a new level. After an initial local anesthetic is given, a cannula is inserted into the treatment area. It has two parts. One part delivers a pressurized “jet” of the tumescent solution under the skin through the treatment area. This solution not only constricts the blood vessels and anesthetizes the area, but by delivering it under jet pressure it also breaks up the unwanted fat pockets. The second part of the cannula then suctions out the unwanted fat and the water.
How is Body-Jet better?
By using Body-Jet’s pressurized liquid spray to break up fat, much of the tissue trauma of traditional liposuction is avoided. This is because in traditional liposuction the cannula itself is used to break up the fat before suctioning it away. This involves a back and forth motion that at times can be quite aggressive. As you would assume, moving the cannula back and forth in this manner creates a good deal of tissue trauma in the treatment area. That is why traditional liposuction can cause significant bruising and bleeding, along with a good deal of post-procedure soreness.
Because Body-Jet uses pressurized water spray to break up the fat, it eliminates much of the trauma. This minimizes bruising and post-procedure discomfort. Plus, recovery is easier and faster. Most of our Body-Jet patients are back to work and their normal activities in just a few days.
Using the fat
If you choose, we can also collect the fat we remove with aqua liposuction. The fat is separated from the other liquids and purified. Dr. Butka can then inject the purified fat back in areas where you’ve lost volume or seek to add additional contour such as the face, the back of the hands, the buttocks, or the breasts (although not all patients are right for this).
