A Lift without the Incisions

There isn’t a person out there over 40 who couldn’t use the lifting and rejuvenation provided by a surgical facelift. That’s especially true here in sunny Brownwood. But many patients simply aren’t interested in having surgery.

At Creative Image Laser Solutions, we have an alternative — the thread lift. Thread lifts use fine, absorbable threads to lift sagging tissues, while at the same time triggering new collagen production. Results of these easy-to-take treatments can last up to two years.

What is a thread lift?

In a thread lift temporary sutures are placed strategically under the skin by Dr. Butka. Once in place, they produce a subtle, but visible lifting of the facial skin. You can compare thread lifts with surgical facelifts, where excess sagging skin is trimmed, and underlying support tissues are brought back to a higher position on the face. Those surgeries can require extensive recovery time. In contrast, a thread lift uses sutures to simply suspend the skin by stitching up portions of it. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and lifting and tightening the face.

The lifting and tightening described above are only half of what a thread lift delivers. These procedures have a secondary tightening mechanism. This comes from the threads themselves. The threads used are made of the same material as absorbable surgical sutures. Once these are placed for their initial tightening, the body begins the process of absorbing the sutures, a process known as hydrolysis. This stimulates the body to produce new collagen around the threads. As the threads are absorbed, eventually turning to water, the new collagen remains, firming the skin for from six months to two years.

Two different lift procedures

At Creative Image Laser Solutions, we offer two types of thread lifts, a PDO thread lift using NovaThreads and a Silhouette InstaLift using somewhat different threads. Both of these options provide lifting and increases in collagen production. Here’s a little more detail on how a PDO thread lift and a Silhouette InstaLift are done by Dr. Butka.

  • In a PDO thread lift, threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) are inserted under the skin at various strategic locations. This instantly lifts and tightens the sagging tissues in the area. Then the PDO thread, made of the same material as absorbable surgical sutures, begins to be absorbed by the body. This stimulates the body to produce new collagen around the threads. As the threads are absorbed, eventually turning to water, the new collagen remains, firming the skin for from six months to two years.
  • In a Silhouette InstaLift, Butka uses dissolvable threads that have a series of tiny cones spaced down the thread. The thread is inserted through a tiny incision and placed under the skin where the cones anchor it into place, lifting and suspending the skin and tightening the area. Beyond the thread’s instant lifting characteristics, as the threads begin to be absorbed, they also trigger a wound response, where new collagen is produced around the threads just as in a PDO lift.
