What is acne?

Acne is all about the sebaceous glands. These are the glands found at the bottom of the hair follicles. They are responsible for keeping our skin and hair moisturized by releasing oil. However, during puberty, raging hormone levels in teenagers can make the sebaceous glands go little nuts, overproducing oil. This overproduction causes the glands to clog, leading to a buildup of bacteria in those clogged glands. The result is a zit.

At Creative Image Laser, we use high-intensity pulsed light (IPL) for treating some cases of acne. We apply a cold gel to the skin and then deliver the IPL energy. Patients feel a sensation of a snapping on their skin when the light is delivered, akin to a rubber band snap.
